TCF are working with the Anglican Parish of St Andrew’s, Ramallah, to develop psychotraumatic support as part of a programme to build resilience in Christian communities across Palestine.

On 18 August 2022 the Church was raided and damaged by Israeli Defense Force (IDF) soldiers. Despite this, since reopening, they continue to offer pastoral care for the spiritual and social needs of the community.

Marwan Barghouti

Marwan Barghouti is a Palestinian elected official. Despite imprisonment in Israel since 2002, Barghouti remains politically active and a uniting force for Palestinians advocating for a 2-state solution. Among the most popular Palestinian political figures, many believe he would win presidential elections if released.

On Barghouti, Lord Alderdice has been vocal about Marwan’s ability to lead negotiations towards a stable 2-state solution. Barghouti was a vocal supporter of the 1990s Oslo Accords. During Lord Alderdice’s 2024 address to the Liberal Democrat Friends of Palestine (available in full on his personal website), he advocates for the release of Barghouthi, which can drive political progress and provide stability for the people of both Israel and Palestine.

On 16 September 2025, Liberal Democrat MPs and Peers met with Arab Barghouti, Marwan’s son. This meeting was hosted by Lord Alderdice in collaboration with Lib Dem Friends of Palestine, and they discussed the increasing threat to Marwan’s life and the thousands of other Palestinians imprisoned in Israel and denied access to legal representation.
